REACH Community Development

Mission

REACH creates opportunities for all people to thrive by developing and promoting equitable access to quality, affordable homes, supportive services, and community.

Bottom Line for Portland

This year, there were 6,297 individuals unhoused in our region. That means over 6,000 people haven't found their way to safe and stable housing or supportive services like REACH. REACH has been opening doors for more than 40 years, creating affordable housing options for thousands of families. We deliver solutions that make a difference for all of us.

Make no mistake: Affordable housing and supportive services for staying housed are the solution to homelessness.

Quote

You wonder, what am I doing wrong? Because I'm trying, I have a job. It’s so hard to find something that I can afford that still allows me to be with my child, because how can I be a good parent if I am away all the time, and I don't get to see my child grow in order to provide stable housing? Having a stable home has helped so much for me to feel just safe and comfortable, and connected with people.

– Alexandra, resident at REACH

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

REACH operates within the reality of a racist housing industry, both past and present. As housing and service providers, we address the harmful impacts of paternalism that exists in white-dominant culture through listening and learning from historically excluded communities. While this work is ongoing, our current efforts are focused on providing training, internal accountability and partnering with culturally specific organizations to inform housing development and resident programming.
