The Rosewood Initiative

BIPOC-Led Organization

Mission

Building a safe, healthy and vibrant community where neighbors can thrive together.

Bottom Line for Portland

At The Rosewood Initiative, we know that when individuals are well resourced, they gain greater control over their own lives. We serve as a community anchor, building connections and providing access to vital resources that foster economic stability, health, and wellness for East Portlanders. In 2025, as immigrant and refugee communities face growing threats to their safety, security, and agency, our work is more critical than ever. Join us in empowering our community, especially our most vulnerable neighbors, for a brighter future.

Thanks to your support 3,372 people visited our community center in 2024 and we provided:

• 2,000 pounds of culturally relevant food to community members.

• 600 people with connection to resources such as legal aid, housing, food assistance and health services.

• 180 with 1-on-1 workforce navigation.

• $14,395 in Trimet fare relief.

• $85,000 in small business grants.

About our Workforce Navigation Program:

“Josh has helped me with the unemployment process and helped to translate various documents I’ve received that were in english so I couldn’t understand and he helped. I think it’s really important what Josh is doing because that really does open doors for a lot of people … Josh was able to get me a job at a laundromat in a hospital, and they’re part of a union as well.”

About our Summer Play Days Program:

“We're Jewish, and there's not a big Jewish community here, so it was just nice to find community in general that was really accepting and supporting and friendly… The events changed weekly and one month to the next month there were different things going on.”
