YWCA of Greater Portland
Mission
YWCA of Greater Portland is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
Bottom Line for Portland
We are fierce advocates for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and seniors living on low, fixed incomes. We believe safe, stable housing is a human right and the first step toward meaningful healing for our most vulnerable neighbors. All of our services are tailored to each individual’s needs and circumstances, including housing support, therapy, case management, and other wraparound services that help participants regain safety, independence, and dignity.
Our staff reflects the communities we serve. Currently, 90% of our staff are survivors, 45% are BIPOC, 54% are 2SLGBTQIA+, 25% are Bilingual or multilingual, and 11% are immigrants. We are part of the oldest and largest network of multiracial women's organizations in the world and have been serving the Portland community for nearly 125 years.
Quote
“I was able to get into my own place, find a job that was fulfilling and allows me to provide well for myself. I feel like I can do this now without relying on an abusive man to take care of me. I feel as though I’m only just beginning my journey into true independence and freedom from the destructiveness of an abusive relationship, but without the help I received I most likely would not have been able to do this. I am forever grateful for everything YWCA has done for me.” -YWCA Participant, Survivor Therapy Program
“My husband took care of everything, so I had no idea what to do. [My advocate] Natalia helped me with food when I needed it… legal assistance… she helps with everything I ask for. If Natalia can help me, she will.” - Faye, YWCA Participant, Senior Services
