The People's Nonprofit Accelerator
Mission
The People’s Nonprofit Accelerator serves people raising funds for nonprofit organizations by linking them with others in the development community and providing affordable opportunities for their professional growth and education.
Bottom Line for Portland
The nonprofit sector is one of the largest employers in Oregon (1 out of every 10 workers) alongside manufacturing, with the majority of the workforce residing in the Portland metropolitan area. These community members and mission-driven leaders need and deserve affordable and accessible workforce development training and networking to successfully operate their respective organizations. We also know that reducing financial barriers for BIPOC to access trainings and networks is a step towards racial equity since white supremacy culture has created barriers and contributed towards an inner circle phenomena that influences BIPOC's ability to have a greater network of donors.
Quote
"This course [Certificate of Managerial Resilience] gave me the confidence to lead. I had never really believed that I had what it took to manage others. In our classes we talked about tools and developed some concrete skills that make the job easier, but we also uncovered the leadership qualities that we have within us. For the first time I feel excited to lead and like I am perfectly capable of it!” - Hilary Shohoney, Free Geek
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The People’s Nonprofit Accelerator Board and staff are majority BIPOC/LGBTQIA2S+ led, and have a multiformity of marginalization, privilege, experience, perspective, and knowledge. We seek to shift the power dynamics in the nonprofit sector to be in favor of those who have been historically excluded from justice, equity, and inclusion. We do this by providing accessible educational content to support their unique business needs within fundraising and philanthropy, mission-driven executive leadership, ethical storytelling and marketing, and community-led board service.
