Mission

OPERA IN THE PARK Portland’s mission is to enrich the cultural life of the city by providing professional opera performances of high artistic quality — major opera, international soloists, live orchestra, and chorus — free of charge. We believe the arts can bridge economic and cultural differences and improve people’s lives in many important ways.

Bottom Line

OPERA IN THE PARK Portland is the only organization in the Pacific Northwest producing grand opera concerts free of charge to the public, fostering cultural equity and community by bringing thousands together in shared public spaces. Each summer concert welcomes over 5,000 people to the park, featuring over 80 musicians on stage, including world-renowned soloists, a professional orchestra and full chorus.  In 2026, we expanded to Hillsboro, presenting the Oregon premiere of the world's first mariachi opera to the public in Shute Park.
