Mission

OPERA IN THE PARK Portland’s mission is to enrich the cultural life of the city by providing professional opera performances of high artistic quality — major opera, international soloists, live orchestra, and chorus — free of charge. We believe the arts can bridge economic and cultural differences and improve people’s lives in many important ways.

Bottom Line for Portland

OPERA IN THE PARK Portland is the only organization in the Pacific Northwest producing free grand opera concerts, fostering cultural equity and community by bringing thousands together in shared public spaces.

Since 2003, we have brought grand opera to more than 72,000 attendees in local parks. Our annual concert now draws over 7,000 attendees, surpassing the capacity of Portland’s largest indoor venues. In 2025, our single performance of Bizet’s Carmen generated over $350,000 in economic impact. But the true value of our performances lies in cultural access: Our recent survey showed attendance from 50+ zip codes, with 28% seniors and over 60% from protected classes.

Quote

“This was the first time I've ever been at an opera performance and I'm so happy I had the chance. It's impressive, and moving. We looked at tickets before but couldn't afford them, so this was an excellent experience. Thanks!”

Thank you for offering first class opera to the public. It is such a special occasion; I am impressed how 6,000 people can come together to share a treasured event together. Thank you!
